Two separate interviews with seasoned motorcyclists, Britton Purser, Uli Bischoff and Ned Seusse, discussing their experiences riding in MOAB.

Britton Purser, Uli Bischoff

Britton Purser first learned how to ride a motorcycle at the tender age of seven. Growing up on a 1,700 acre ranch in Western Colorado, he didn't chase cattle on a horse but on a Honda. Britton has owned, ridden, and restored over seventy bikes in his forty years on earth including BMW, Moto Guzzi, BSA, Triumph, Norton, Honda and others. He currently rides a KTM 640 Adventure as well as his trusty 1981 BMW R80GS which he has owned for over twelve years.

Britton has spent countless hours exploring southern Utah for his touring company, Wanderlust Moto Expeditions, and has been a contributing editor for BMW Owners News for over seven years. He has also traveled extensively with his wife Ami throughout western, central, eastern, and northern Europe as well as Russia and Turkey. Britton has a real passion for travel, telling his stories and hearing the stories of others.

A passionate adventure-rider from Europe, Ulrich "Uli" Bischoff was born and raised in Germany and relocated to the United States. He bought his second dual-sport motorcycle in Colorado where he explored the spectacular and scenic areas of Canyonlands, Arches, San Rafeal Swell, Green River, Torrey Utah, and of course, Moab.

Uli started riding in 1993 on a KLR 650 and soon-after was transferred to Germany while in the US Air Force. He took the bike with him to and rode all through Europe, exploring Paris, Belgium, Luxemburg and his homeland of Germany—where he learned there were very limited off-road riding opportunities. Six years later, Uli returned to the states where he bought another dual-sport motorcycle, a BMW F650GS/Dakar.

Uli has ridden in and around Moab countless times, with weekend exploring averaging about 15-trips each year. He considers himself a “well seasoned” rider and has experienced just about every riding terrain imaginable. His riding level, he says, is a “work-in-progress”, and he modestly admits there’s always more to learn. Uli’s passion for adventure-riding is as much about exploration and freedom, as it is about the riding.

Ned Suesse

Ned Suesse started riding late in life, after graduating from college at age 22, but has made up for lost time to the best of his ability. He started riding on the street in the East where he grew up, but after he moved to Colorado, turned to the dirt and hasn't looked back. He has competed in such prestigious events as the Baja 1000 and has numerous A-Class Enduro trophies to show, but some of his favorite riding is exploring the areas around Moab, either on a dirtbike or a dual sport.

Every year he spends numerous weekends in Utah riding, and he filmed his instructional DVD, Dual Sport Riding Techniques in the areas around Moab. He loves the varied terrain the area offers, from sand dunes to slickrock, from mountains to desert, and everything in between, all with such overwhelming natural beauty that it's easy to crash after being distracted by the view. He most often rides there on his KTM 250 or 450, but has also explored many of the more remote areas from the saddle of his KTM 950.

His favorite thing to do in Utah is to try to get lost exploring the backcountry. So far he's been pretty successful.
